Become a Certified Environmental Educator in Arizona!

Our Arizona environmental education certification course aligns with NAAEE’s Guidelines for Excellence Preparation & Professional Development preparing participants to create a professional portfolio while gaining knowledge, skills, and experience toward certification.

The competencies for certification are based on the NAAEE’s Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education and Arizona’s Framework for Environmental Concepts and Themes (AFECT) and is recognized by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) as a valid certification program.

A 100-hour self-paced reviewer-supported course.  

This certification is a year-long, independent, online portfolio building process where participants work one-on-one with mentors to complete assignments to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities. It IS NOT a weekly facilitated course, although participants may wish to connect with other cohort members throughout the year. 


The cost of this certification is $305, and scholarships may be available. This course fee includes a one-year membership to AAEE, a $50 value.

This course fee is non-refundable.

A non-refundable $20 application fee is required to be considered for participation, in addition to the cost of certification.

This application fee is transferrable within one year if you are not selected for the next upcoming cohort or if you need to defer to a future cohort.


We’ll enroll three cohorts in 2022.

2022 Cohort #1:

Mon. Jan. 10, 2021 – Sun. Jan. 15, 2023

Registration deadline: 12/15/2021

2022 Cohort #2:

Mon. May 23, 2022 – Sun. May 28, 2023

Registration deadline: 05/08/2022

2022 Cohort #3:

Mon. Aug. 22, 2022 – Sun. Aug. 27, 2023

Registration deadline: 08/01/2022


Submission of an application to participate is not a guarantee of a space in the course.

We are currently accepting 15 participants per cohort, limited by available reviewers. 

All other applicants will be placed on our waitlist for the next available cohort.
